At our August 17 Board of Governors meeting, we decided that the best, safest way amid the pandemic to hold this year’s annual SHYC member meeting would be to do so virtually; that is, through a videoconference.
We take seriously our obligation to hold the meeting, of course, but find ourselves unable to accommodate all our members who may want to attend a typical, in-person meeting. In years past, we have usually had 80 members attend, in addition to the 10 members of the Board, and Cheri and staff. There’s simply no way to space ourselves safely inside the clubhouse this year. Outdoor gatherings are limited by the governor’s executive order to 100. And trying to hold a meeting outside in late October poses its own risks, anyway, should the weather not cooperate.
As this historic year rolled out one distressing surprise after another, many of us have become accustomed to videoconferencing with business associates, and friends, and family. So our annual meeting will follow that new norm. We’re eager to meet. You can look forward to our Commodore’s discussing the year and the state of the club, as well as updates on our many activities, including grounds, dining and docks, along with any business the board may decide to bring before you. We will, as usual, provide members with ballots via email well in advance, should you be unable to participate in the videoconference for any reason.
We will be communicating details about the annual meeting, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, as soon as we have made arrangements.
