Sailing Programs & Racing Results

At the South Haven Yacht Club, we love boats, boating and boaters. To fully enjoy boating, it helps to be trained in handling and safety. That’s why SHYC offers sailing lessons for youth and adults. You can learn how to sail, the rules of the waterways, and teamwork. And, you’ll have a great time, guaranteed.

We also believe in healthy competition. So, we have our summer race series every Thursday evening. Sailboat races run from May to September, weather permitting. Additionally, we host the Invitational and Commodore’s Cup, and our racers participate in other community races.

See below for information on the SHYC boating programs.

Summer Race Series

Come sail with us! SHYC offers a summer racing series that is open to our members and the public. The series runs May through September every Thursday evening, weather permitting.

Any sailboat with a current valid MidWest Performance Handicap Racing Fleet rating certificate (MWPHRF) is eligible.

SHYC Racing Mission:

  • To advance the sport of sailboat racing at the Club.
  • To promote a safe environment for sailboat racing.
  • To encourage camaraderie and healthy competition among sailors.
  • To encourage awareness of the sport of sailing for all sailing enthusiasts.

Annual Invitational Regatta

Every year the SHYC hosts an Invitational Regatta. Sailboats come from up & down the
Lakeshore to participate in this annual event. After a competitive day on the water, the sailors and members gather for the awards presentation, dinner and dancing.

This year The Cheap Dates will provide the entertainment. A good time is sure to be had by all.

Annual Commodore’s Cup

Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded. Make sure to mark your calendars so you do not miss out on this fun night!
